In reading, students will read narrative and informational texts. In narrative text, they will find explicit support in texts and draw character inferences from it. In informational text, they will compare and contrast first and second hand information on the same event. They will explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in texts.
In writing, students are beginning to research advertising techniques. They will analyze them, and write an opinion piece on which advertising technique they think has the most influence over consumers.
ELC
In reading, students will continue to explore autobiographies and memoirs written by various authors. They will also complete an independent book study where they will have an opportunity to select tow autobiographies to read from the author of their choice.
In writing, students will write an autobiographical piece that they will share through a brief oral presentation. During the presentation, they will focus on sharing an aspect of their autobiography that clearly reflects its central theme.
